A Great Day Out at the Pallant House Gallery in Chichester

Our visit to Pallant House Gallery was a great day out with Artspace.

Following a previous visit to the Bloomsbury Exhibition at Charleston, Lewes, The Pallant House was a rewarding addition to our knowledge of the Bloomsbury Group’s Artwork. The ‘Dora Carrington: Beyond Bloomsbury’ exhibition was enlightening and a unique opportunity to explore the work of a prolific but unheralded artist in her own time. The light and palette of her paintings is unique and both colour and energy radiates off every artwork. We also really enjoyed the focus on female artists as so much of art history is sadly written and protagonized by men.

Aside Carrington, that is not to be missed, Maggi Hambling whose art is based on sound and nature is a wonderful contrast to Dora Carrington’s work and a reflection of a great curatorial effort. “Pattern: Rhythm and Repetition” showcased a colourful and diverse range of mediums and forms of world art. Finally, the Permanent Collection is a wonderful treasure trove of cross generational art that will clearly enhance and inform our own work.

We are very grateful for their invitation.
